Electromagnetic Flow Meter Electronics

Mag Meter Converters – Accuracy and Reliability for Any Environment

The signal converter is the reporting, input and output control device for the sensor. The converter allows the measurements, functional programming, control of the sensor and data recording to be communicated through the display and inputs & outputs.

The converter and sensor are supplied as a matched system. However, replacement converters are available.

Reliable and robust, these converters are “set and forget” and do not require constant maintenance and can function for years with minimal contact. When installed with AMI, all information recorded by the converter can be transmitted wirelessly and downloaded for analysis.

A converter, as it is called by McCrometer, can also be understood as a transmitter. It is not the same as a register (whether mechanical or electronic). A register totalizes propeller rotations while a converter receives an electromechanical signal and converts it to flow measurement.

ProComm Converter

ProComm Converter

The microprocessor-based signal converter has a multi-point curve-fitting algorithm to improve accuracy, dual 4-20mA analog outputs, an RS485 communication port, an 8-line graphical backlit LCD display with six-key touch programming, and a rugged enclosure that meets IP67.

This transmitter also comes standard with password protection and many more features. In addition to a menu-driven self-diagnostic test mode, the microprocessor continually monitors the converter’s functionality.

The ProComm signal converter is best used by customers who want easy and quick configuration using the six-key interface and backlit display.

With programmable security features, access is password controlled and multiple levels of access give customers full control over even the most detailed features of function and operation. Some advanced features such as MCP can be accessed with the USB port.

ProComm GO Converter

ProComm GO Converter

This battery powered converter is user-configurable via the USB port connected to a laptop. Batteries are guaranteed for five years.

This transmitter is best used in environments where AC or DC power isn’t available or practical. Battery power makes it the best choice for remote locations, but it can order with AC or DC power as an option.

The interface features a two-line LCD display with no backlight and is activated by opening the lid. It displays flow rate and velocity to five digits of precision. There is no touch pad to change settings, but is highly configurable using the software configuration tool.

As an alternative to the ProComm, the ProComm GO signal converter it has a lower cost and has fewer features, but it performs with high accuracy and reliability. The digital outputs are two isolated pulse outputs for volumetric and AMI output. Analog output is 4-20mA, galvanically isolation, 16 bit resolution.

Smart Output Compatibility

McCrometer mag meters are designed with a highly intelligent module in their transmitters that is similar to a communication protocol. This capability allows McCrometer mag meters to transmit data on a schedule or on demand, as well as receive diagnostic queries to ensure or update meter operation. There’s no need for technicians to gather flow data manually or check meter status with McCrometer’s Smart Output mag meters.

Smart OutputThis feature can be used with all mag meters using either the ProComm converter or the ProComm GO converter.

With advanced plug-and-play and real-time Smart Output communications, McCrometer mag meters provide highly effective solutions for automatic meter reading (AMR) and advanced meter infrastructure (AMI) in support of utility smart grids that help conserve valuable water resources, reduce expensive non-revenue water costs, and simplify daily operations and routine maintenance.
